The Dyskolos, or The Bad-Tempered Man, is the most complete work we have by a founding master (perhaps THE founding master), of comedy.I found this play to be incredibly readable. The basic plot is that a man, Sostratos, who falls in love with a farmers daughter.

Knemon is the bad-tempered man in the play, and refuses Sostratoss intentions/5. This collection contains the full text of 'Old Cantankerous' (Dyskolos), the only surviving complete example of New Comedy, as well as fragments from works including 'The Girl from Samos' and 'The Rape of the Locks', all of which are concerned with domestic catastrophes, the hazards of love and the trials of family life.
